Artist's Statement

I am a digital media artist who often incorporates my outdoor and nature photographs into my work. I frequently use unique angles, multiple perspectives, and semi-transparent layers. Additionally, I tend to include elements related to snowboarding, Tae Kwon Do, and whitewater rafting and kayaking.  When in doubt, I use purple.

Most of my work outside of academia is driven by a desire to support my volunteer efforts. I enjoy the challenge of working within a project’s constraints and integrating music with digital media. Some of my creations are inspired by concepts or ideas that come to me during my daily experiences.

At times, programming is the best way to achieve the desired effects within my artwork. When necessary or inspired, I modify images using digital media techniques, sometimes enhanced by artificial intelligence. For example, I used AI to add a field of flowers in the foreground of a photograph featuring a double rainbow over a river valley backed by mountains. Occasionally, I guide AI in creating images from scratch to meet specific requirements.  While some people view AI as a threat to the creative arts, I see it as a tool that enhances my creativity.

Although I have not participated in a public art show, my artwork is displayed publicly almost weekly as part of my church’s live streaming of worship services.
